If any of these sound familiar

We solve the common problems.

The five problems Charly sees every day in opaque-grey micro-realism portraits. How we solve them in this session, in order.

  1. It looks great fresh, but once it heals it’s a blob

It’s the number one problem with colour at micro scale. Saturation isn’t driven in, it’s added: controlled layers onto the skin, not pressure. And the order of darks, mids and lights so no tone gets dirty. Same piece, years later: clean and readable.

Solved inM3.1Start of the sessionM3.7Face III Base LayersM4.1Session recap

  2. I oversaturate and end up breaking the skin

We start with the coat, the zone that cleans up the most, so we don’t punish the 3 centimetres twice. The eyes go with a Round Shader at 5 to 5.5 volts, slow, hiding the needle. And a 10 to 15 minute rest before checking, so you don’t insist where it’s already saturated.

    Solved inM3.2Coat IM3.9Eyes and TexturesM4.1Session recap

  3. Hair by hair looks fake and clumps up on me

Realism isn’t lines. Hair-by-hair strokes turn into a solid blob over the years. You generate base layers as patches and only at the end loose light hairs with a Round Liner 3 in zigzag: none of them straight, but they all flow.

Solved inM3.5Face IM3.7Face III Base LayersM3.9Eyes and Textures

  4. The whites eat the detail on the face

The whites, last of all. You save the space for the white before laying it in, you enter with a round, you wait ten minutes and you don’t insist. The sticker-style outline gets saturated so it doesn’t lighten as it heals. If you overdo it, you lose the piece.

    Solved inM3.9Eyes and TexturesM3.10Clothing

  5. I don’t know in which order to lay in the tones without contaminating them

There’s a sequence, no improvising. Three zones in order, the coat, the face and the cigar, to minimise colour contamination. And within each one: pure black, darks, mids, lights and highlights. None of that adding a little more to see what happens.

How the piece is built

Six phases. A full session in real time.

What you'll see, in the order it happens. No loose clips without context. The whole piece from start to finish.

  1. 01

    Table setup and stencil

Strokes, needles and a stencil that holds up through the whole session.

  2. 02

    Structure and mapping

Reference water lines and the first darks.

  3. 03

Base layers, from darks to lights

The tonal order that keeps the colour from getting contaminated.

  4. 04

Saturation by layers, not by pressure

It builds up in layers, with rest, without driving the needle into the skin.

  5. 05

Detail and textures at low voltage

A slow hand and a fine needle for the textures, without oversaturating.

  6. 06

    Highlights and finishing

White at the end, a barrier line and a velvet effect.

Before you join

Who it's for. And who it's not.

This is for you if…

  • You get requests for pet tattoos and you want to add them to your portfolio resolved in colour.
  • You’ve been tattooing for 1-3 years and you know the work has to stop the scroll on your Instagram.
  • You work Black & Grey and you want to make the jump to colour without fear of breaking the skin.
  • You work realism or micro but your colour gets contaminated or fades as it heals.
  • You care about the long term: that the piece heals identical to the photo, not just that it looks good on day one, and you’re willing to practise on synthetic skin.

Not for you if…

  • You’ve never touched a machine. Start with the beginner seminar first.
  • You don’t have much interest in colour realism.
  • You’re after a trick for a single case. This is a system for resolving any pet.
  • You expect to tattoo perfectly the moment you finish. This is a method: you internalise it by practising and going back to the lessons every time you forget a detail.

A beast with the machine, he explains calmly and takes his time. I wish I had the money to buy every masterclass, because I'm opening a tattoo studio and it would come in really handy. A beast, seriously. I hope I get to meet you in person one day.

Common questions

What people ask before joining

For any level, as long as you have the minimum technique of line, shading and gradients (what you see in the beginner seminar). With that grounding, this session shows you how to do a colour pet portrait at micro scale, with a method.
